[Tag] What Inspires Me??!!

Been inspiringly tagged by Vishesh ... This is a very interesting tag, its all about sharing about those who/which have inspired me in life... A way of saying "Thank you for the role you play in my life's journey...looking fwd to many more years... ;)"

“Enthusiasm is the inspiration of everything great. Without it no man is to be feared, and with it none despised.” -  Christian Nevell Bovee

Most of my inspiration comes from Real people... Friends mostly!! Apart from this, there is so much that inspires me.... Am jus happy to have em all in my life~~!!

1. Nit, my bestttt friend!! what would i do without you girl? She came into my life when i was at an all time low, and helped me let my guard down.. Its thanks to her that i have come this far in life and have been able to touch other's lives as well. we share a bond thicker than Fevicol, and more than what words can express. I think about her every morning, and that inspires me to go further, take that little jump and cross over to the other side.. She makes me take risks, keeps telling me that i am capable of much more and is always there to back me up, or kick me in the butt when i give up/give in/get depressed.... Hugsss my sweetz!!

If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be.
Now put foundations under them. - Henry David Thoreau

2. Vibhs, another dear darling friend, who came into my life very recently, but who has made an amazing impact.. With her, it was like we knew each other forever, we were comfy talking to each other about our deep dark secrets... and she is my saviour.., She talks so much sense, that i have started following them and they've made my life so much better... someone who is so open, honest and caring, she inspires me with her grit, and determination to not let anything shake that smile... Am so Glad she came into my life..

If you can imagine it, you can achieve it; if you can dream it, you can become it.
- William Arthur Ward

3. M, my soul mate!! The story of how our paths crossed is amazing, i dint even realise it, but i had welcomed him into my life with open arms... The amount of warmth, love and care i get from him is what keeps me going.. Everyday, while solving puzzles, doing the sudoku, working out issues related to work, his thoughts, concepts are in my mind, working with me, helping me every step of the way.... An amazing person, he gives all he has...

4. Floppy - oh, yes. So what if he is a doggie.. everytime i see him, i'm in awe. the way he welcomes me when i walk in home, after having been out almost all day[abandoning him], the way his tail dances round n round non stop teaches me to love love n love with all my heart.. being my sounding board, he helps me get new ideas, new perspectives...

“Just don't give up on trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don't think you can go wrong.”-  Ella Fitzgerald

5. Vishesh - yep, you inspire me!! Am not just saying it, i meant it... I mean, if someone at your age can think so deep, and so far into the future, it makes me wanna do atleast half of that.. Plus, you write amazing stuff...

6. Rungta - That is how we called her, and she was one brain box.. Rank holder through college, who got married into a huge family and is today proud mommy of 2 kids.. her family into wee bit of crisis, and she is working out ways to bring em out of it.. R is such an inspiration to me.. Her power of thinking on her feet, ability to be cool, calm at times of chaos and how she used to zoom in last minute and give us a few statements, which would complete the project still lingers in my mind... Take care gurl!!

7.Kuruvi, an angel... She is all of 2.5yrs old, but such a high spirited mature kiddo, she has me wishing i was like her...

8.  All the rest are here... in these collages!!

Here's to many more who will inspire me...

NOT gonna pass this tag to anyone in particular.. But anyone feels like doing it, feel free!! :)

Burst of Joy!!!

Saturday was one hellova day!! your probably thinking i did something wacko, or partied hard.. nope, sorry to burst your bubble, but it was quite a hectic day.. had a meeting with big wigs in the afternoon, which went on from 3 to 6.30.. and then sauntered towards Anokhi for a cuppa coffee, and a bite to eat before heading to Park Sheraton for the Play [click on that to read all about it]...

Anyways, play and dinner came to an end around 11.30, which is when me and my girl friends came down stairs to make our way outside to the cab that was waiting for us [see what sensible girls we are... called for a cab when we realised it was gettin really late, and since we all lived close to each other, it worked out well]... as i was walking out the main door, i thought i saw a familiar face and i was stunned... excited... kicked... and just Excited [ok, am getting excited thinking about] ... it was P, a college friend of mine, who i hadnt seen in about 5years or so... we did stay in touch, every now and then chatting up over the messenger, etc... a sweet thing, who's been through a lot... [now, lets not get into that.. thats all in the past.. she is now happily married]

It was at that very moment, she too turned, and we just went into a big scream followed by a Huggg and Hieee, how u doing girl.... kinda screech!!! Its been long since i was this happy... she intro'd me to her hubby, and mentioned it was his bday and they were there for dinner... Gosh, i couldnt get over the excitment for quite a bit.. told my other friends, S and V, who were waiting for me to head home all about P.... :)

is this whats called destiny? we've known each other for over a decade
spent half being away
and now we meet.. of all the places, at the lobby of Park Sheraton!!!
Talk about ironies of life!!! :)

Tequila n Salt!!

Tequila and Salt

This should probably be taped

to your bathroom mirror

where one could read it every day.

You may not realize it,

but it's 100% true.

1. There are at least two people in this world

that you would die for.

2. At least 15 people in this world

love you in some way.

3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you

is because they want to

be just like you.

4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone,

even if they don't

like you.

5. Every night,

SOMEONE thinks about you

before they go to sleep.

6. You mean the world to someone.

7. You are special and unique.

8. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.

9. When you make the biggest mistake ever,

something good comes from it.

10. When you think the world

has turned its back on you

take another look.

11. Always remember the compliments you received.

Forget about the rude remarks.

And always remember....

when life hands you Lemons,

ask for Tequila and Salt and call me over!!lollol

Emotions run amock

The past week has been kinda difficult for all of us.. i cant really say difficult, more like something we were not looking forward to.. nothing bad was gonna happen... its just that my cousin/bro, V was leaving for the USA to pursue his under grad... It seems like it was yesterday he said he had gotten admission into the ASU, and now he has already boarded the plane and on his way to Yankee land.. sigh...

I've been spending a lot of time with him, being with him, packing, gen hanging out and talking about everything under the sun... his friends have been home almost thru the day, they kept floating in and out... sweet kids~!

V is the same age as my sis, and we are kinda close... lot of similarities between us, infact at times i wonder how am closer to him than to my own sis.... :)

We talk about gizmos, games, PS, phones, ipod, music, techno stuff, and what not for hours... and we love watches.. oggling at them, admiring them and buying them as well...

As i was helping him pack his bags, i realised the little birdie who was born 45 days premie, had a big head, and was dorky looking has become a smart, mature cookie and ready to fly the nest[as my friend said it]... he had my friends, my sis's friends and family friends calling wishing him good luck!! That is the kind of person he is..adorable, friendly and always smiling... wont hesitate to ask for help, nor to offer help.. but dont mess with him, cos that is a side you dont wanna see..[ not that i have, but have heard of it from his friends]

last evening, all of us were at his house, gen flitting about... and when time came to leave for the airport, it was so emotional.....the air was heavy n tense... his friends also came along.. a few close ones!!! and by the time he was done with baggage chk in and ready to head to immigration we were all an emotional wreck!! it was like the final moment... even though we would be seeing him in Dec, it seemed like far away!!

Good luck kiddo and have a fun time wherever you go!!
Miss you tonnessssssssssssssssssssss...!!!

What a contrast~

Got back to sweltering HOT POWER CUT filled Chennai today morning... Oh, Gosh, the minute i stepped off the train, i could feel the sweat and the heat... shucks.. why cant chennai weather be like blore.. atleast once in a while~~

But for what it was worth, the weekend was fun... had a work related meeting, that took place around Lunch at this quaint little cafe, Cafe Schorlemmer on the roof top at Max Mueller Bhavan, CMH road.. lovely place... cool breeze flowing through the place, yummmy food(tho a wee bit on the pricey side) and good company... :)

Apart from this, managed to spend oodles of time with cousins, aunt, uncle n gramma.. and the icing on the cake- meeting friends... this time was different.. met them at new places... one set of friends(who also happen to be brothers) and i caught up at Cafe coffee day at RMZ Infinity[old madras road, just hop skip jump from Big Bazaar].. just fell in love with the place, the open space and the water falls, fountain etc.... nice!!!

And then zoomed around to the other side of town, to Residency road, to ..... yummlicious Corner House to catch up with another friend and his wife [ they just got married, i had been to blore for that as well...sweet couple]... chit chat over a cup of Apple pie n ice cream was just sinful!!! :)

Oh, and there is a book exhibition going on in Cunningham Road, near Indian express, at this place called Lady Jahangir Kothawala hall.. some good books, i even managed to grab a copy of F1 2005 edition( filled with awesome pics from various events..)and it costed only Rs95... they have some other good stuff as well.. its on till Aug 5th, so if you are in blore and a book worm, do chk it out~!

Thereis also a north easter craft fair at the Indian Institute of Engineers, opp Indian express.. some unique stuff from Nagaland, manipur, etc...

Looking fwd to my next visit already!!! :)

Hope u all had a lovely weekend!! :)

Now, back to work

Man Vs Beast

For those of you who are wondering what this is about, well, i saw this TV show called Man Vs Beast on AXN [if i remember right] and it just baffles me...

Here is a peek into what the show is about and then shall throw in my thoughts [ for the benefit of those who've not seen this show]

A show that is about competition
Real life serious stuff
Bad enough there are zillion reality shows, where humans compete with each other, here they are competing against the beasts...

Yep, you read it right.. Literally...

  • A man and a dog run and throw themselves into a 60ft deep pond to see who can jump the farthest.. must say the dog was a sexy black labrador that won by half a foot!~~![ 27ft vs 27.5ft]
  • A gymnast and a chimp go at it hanging from the bar... who can sustain longer... the show i saw had the man wincing in pain, alternating hands.. while the Chimp happily swung, and infact played around a bit with its legs and then ...hehehe... went on to peee right there.... :D n finally it clung onto a post that was there.. this Disqualified the Chimp and the man won!! yipee~~ [6:08 mins]

  • Yet another saw a man and a gorilla clambering up a tall tree post, to see who can reach the top fastest... the gorilla did!
  • 4 tiny men ran a relay race against a wacko camel... [i aint kidding you... they ran and passed the baton to each other as the raging camel ran in the next lane]
I couldnt take it anymore.. dint watch the completion of the race, so dont know who won... Uff!!
OK, here come my thots and questions...

What on earth is wrong with people creating TV shows??
Are they running out of ideas?
Or are humans getting insecure and competing with their animal counterparts to prove they
are stronger?? Duh!!!

And am pretty sure the animals have no idea they are in a COMPETITION.. for them, its just something they do..instinctly... a dog runs after something, a chimp hangs on the tree all day.. I wonder what they would do/say if they knew that they were indeed in a game that involved winning and prizes.... :)

I have decided i am gonna pen down some stuff about me that fascinate me and people around me.... [blowing my own trumpet i know...but heck, why not~]

- i smile all the time [no matter how am feeling / if there is bugging me or not]

- i can write poems that are not beyond 3stanzas... [a friend suggested i shd try writing longer ones cos my poems can be extended, but somehow that doesnt happen]

- i have no problems striking a conversation with a total stranger [ a guy sitting next to me at the movie, or a lady with a cute baby in the theater]

- i love sending sms's to friends [not random fwds, but msgs like hi how are you, n stuff like that]

- i absolutely loveeeeeeeeeeee babiesss [ yesterday a cousin had come home wiht her 5mth old son, he is soo cute.. i just couldnt let go of him, infact my sis and i were telling each other that we should just take the baby, go to the backyard and maybe our cousin will go off to the wedding leaving him behind..hehehe...]

- i dont mind taking off time and spending it with friends[ sometimes doing nothing, sometimes just going to n fro wondering what to]

- i just cannot do anything unless there is music playing... while working, in gym, cleaning my cupboard, packing, cooking, everythin.... :)

- i can stay up as late as possible at nite but NOT get up early..[can go to bed at 4am or 5am, but not wake up at 5, unless am rushing for a train/flight/wedding.. happened today, woke up at 5 cos granparents were going out and was walking around the house like a wacko cos my body was going berserk..couldnt sleep, couldnt wake up...just bleh...]

more later~~ .... :)

Celebration of sorts

July 11th is a day that began with some wonderful thots in my mind... as i got out of bed, i remembered it was my Friend B's bday [college mate, who used to be a good friend and well, over the years, our friendship has drifted a bit, but i still think of her and miss her loads]

Still remember the look on her face when we got her a chocolate cake for her bday, which was the 2nd day after college opened... a bunch of us pooled in Rs 5 each, and got a cake from Cakes n Bakes... Got her to come to classroom after college and she was stumped... 1. cos she was touched... and 2.. now, this takes the cake.;.hehe... she hates chocolate [the flavour...cakes candy toffee everything...hehehe].. so, we anyways got her to cut it, and all of us dug into it!!
Happpy birthday B.. hugsss

July 11th is also my cousin's 1st anniversary... cousin or should i say uncle.. see, our family is so big that some of my mom's cousins are my age or younger... this guy E, is about a year younger than me, but by relation my uncle..lolz... but we are thick as thieves, grew up together and are very close... here is where it gets wierd... he married a girl, A, who is my cousin.. aka his cousin bro's daughter... so he is kinda married to his niece... hahahaha...[he reads this, i am dead]... :D

They are celebrating their 1st anniversary..... Happpy Anniversary Guys!!!

Another friend, D (we are yet to meet btw) also celebrates 1st anniversary.... She is probably the only one i know who has such a longgggggggggg name.. her 1st name, her dad's last name, and her hubby's name, all rolled into it.. quite a mouthful!!! she had promised that we will meet come her anniversary... lets see if that happens!!

Oh, how can i forget.. one more friend, VP, celebrates her 1st anniversary.... and she has a baby boy, born about a mth or so ago... :) I've met her once or twice, she is my dear friend N's friend, and the one thing i remember about her is how she helped us all wear our sarees the perfect way at my friend,N's wedding.. [u know the kind where your pallu is straight, pleats are perfect, and not a thread out of place... ]

Here's wishing all of you the veryyyyyyyyy best in life and loadssssssssss of happiness~!

Alms to give or earn?

Today morning while walking to our nearby store, i came across not one, but atleast 4 women begging.. some had kids, and others were using their children to beg.. I dint give anything... infact at one girl(who must have been about 6yrs old), i asked her "why she wasnt in school?", she scorned at me and went away....

Another sight that i've gotten accustomed to is the fact that there is a lorry(truck, tempo, watever you wanna call it) parked around the corner, after the Pizza Hut signal(on Sterling road) and there is music blaring from the speakers on the rear of the truck... Spread across the streets on either side, we see people being led around with a begging bowl.. the ones who are begging are BLIND and the ones leading em around are normal people with good eye sight... What the heck is this???? new style begging??? i feel awful whenever i see them.. infact i even wonder if the blind have lost their sight just so they can beg??[like u see in movies, and read in books.. people hurting themselves on purpose, becomming handicapped, etc just to earn a few bucks the easy way]...

Why are they begging?
Why cant they go do something to earn a living?
Do we have to pity them?
Is it wrong to shoo them away?
Do we have to give money to the beggers??
What do you do when you see them lurking about???

In Ajmer, before our visit to the Dargah, we [me and my friend A] were sitting in the cab while the men[being all manly, protecting and macho] went about looking for a hotel where we could wash up, change and head to the dargah, a mob of beggers surounded the cab and started tapping on window, door begging.. there was an old lady, who looked like the ring leader who went about throwing curses at us, about how we shall not prosper cos we dint help her, and how we had car and all, and yet dint bother giving them any money.... eeks.. infact after our visit to the Dargah, and then spending time in the hotel, and finally when we left the town, there were quite a few of the beggers, incl a little girl running along wiht the car screaming stuff...

What is it about begging that has them hooked?
Do they love it so much?? [ most sought after profession...].. sigh...

Am Omnipresent.... did u know!!`

Was working in my room when i heard the gate being rattled.. peeped out the window and saw someone standing there.. Asked him "yaarunga.. [who's that?]" to which our man promptly replied "A [my name]"..

Whoa, what was i doing at the gate??? and inside my room?? am i omnipresent?? interesting na...

This is not just a one off thing... couple of days back when the chair repair guy had come... he was again at the gate... most of them are scared to come in cos of Floppy[to think someone is actually scared of him.. lolz]... anyways... i again called out asking who it was and phatak came the reply "A[my name once again]"...

What is it with these people??? they been trained to instantly give the name of the person they are there to see??? have they forgotten that when someone asks them who they are, they need to either give their name or say courier, post, repair, etc.... :)

Weekend Trails Map..

In case anyone is interested or wishes to know more about the places we went to.. here is a map... :)

weekend trails.. Part II

Day 2

Sunday, 29th June

Sunday dawned bright and early... we had showered, changed and ready to go by 7... Went downstairs, had breakfast (came complimentary with the room) and headed to the bus stand

From there, took the bus to Karaikal, and thereon after quite a wait, were on the road to Nagore (dargah, which is quite popular)… Made a quick visit to the dargah, and took some pics, 1st time saw an elephant in a Dargah

On the road and on our way to Vailankanni (we had decided to start at the last point and make our way to Tranquebar)…Reached Vailankanni around 1ish… retained an auto, went into the church, took a glimpse of the beautiful architecture, palatial towers, the beautiful chapel and took some amazing shots…

Since we were on a tight agenda… we decided to get to Nagapattinam and then take a bus that will take us to Tranquebar… After an hour’s wait, and frustration about to set in, we hopped into a bus and decided that was it... we were not gonna budge... we shall leave when the bus does... which it did at 2pm… phew... finally!!! It then drudged along to Karaikal; the conductor was sweet, told us to stay put. Then dropped us off at Tranquebar bus stand... Even though the fort and beach are walking distance, it was blazing hot, so we took an auto... [There are not too many transport options here, so plan ahead to avoid getting stranded]...

Since we had heard of the Bungalow on the beach, we went there, decided to freshen up, and grab a bite to eat... What used to be the Governor’s mansion is today the Resort... With about 8 rooms, they are charging 4k per nite... we met a guy who is the cook and waiter, interesting guy he was… S and i had a mini coversation with him, after which he made us a deadly bowl of tomato pasta; rice, potato based curry, and 2rotis. All in less than 20mins… J [beware, it’s again on the expensive side]…

The walk along the beach… the rocks to laze on… ruins of a temple that is being reconstructed and ofcourse the Danish fort are the highlights of this place. Behind the temple, one can walk around and see the rest of the village, people going about their daily chores. The beaches are filled with fishing boats and so is the ocean, the waves dancing against the rocks, it’s a place where one can sit feeling at peace...

The fort is also nice, clean and even thought there is nothing much to see, you can walk up to the front entrance and get a view of the ocean running into miles. There is a museum with artifacts, documents dating back to when the Dutch ruled. Entry into fort costs Rs10, and if you are carrying your camera, be ready to shell out another Rs20… we walked up to the main front, sat on the wall and stared into the ocean. S was like, "why do we have to go back to chennai? why do have to work? lets just settle down here..." oh,yes, that is the feeling i had too~~

Porto Novo aka Parangipettai is another place we wanted to visit, but alas, no time… dint want to risk going there, lest it gets too late to catch a bus to Chennai, so next trip shall be Porto Novo and Pichavaram(just for the boat ride)

We had taken down the number of the auto guy, and so called him back to take us to the bus stand... from there we took a bus back to Karaikal, since there were none coming that way going to Chidambaram… and we waited for an hour or so at Karaikal for a Chennai bound bus… finally the wait was for Chidambaram bound bus.. Tried our luck with all buses standing there... people made suggestions – some told us to go to Pondy, take a bus to Chennai.. Some said go to Nagapattinam and then take a bus to Chidambaram...

We dint go further away and get stuck somewhere… around 6, with no choice, we hired an auto to take us to Chidambaram... sweet guy that he was, promised to get us there in 2hrs. and that he would put us onto another bus/auto at Sirgazhi, bcos these guys have permit only in Pondy… so, we hopped in and finally after auto change and all, reached Chidambaram bus stand at 8…

Phew… yayy, we are going to Chennai finally[ i mean, S and i werent excited excited, but knew we had to get back and had found a way, thats all]… Alas, that was not to be so easy… the one bus that stood there was going to leave at 8 and reach Chennai around 3… ruled out... then we went to the counter to ask if we could book seats in the 1st bus that left Monday morn, only to be faced by a rude unpleasant person at the counter who said we cant book for morning and that we have to come and wait from 2am to get a seat… L

With no choice, we took the bus that left Chidambaram at 10pm, the bus promising to land us in Chennai at 4.30am… hopped in, and dozed a bit… Around 1.30, I woke up to realise we were already on ECR road... whoa… so, what it meant was we reached Chennai at 2.30am… J and came home couple of mins later~~~

[a bit blurred, taken on phone]

I must say, this was one trip I shall not forget... And having been bitten by the travel bug, S and I have decided to explore new places every weekend [S has travelled a lot, and i've told her that i wanna go check out atleast half the places she has been to] ~~ yipee~~~

Waiting for her to send across her set of pics....:

Weekend trails - Part I

Butterflies in the tummy…. Excitement in the eyes, I looked forward to the weekend... Friday night had us( me and my travel crazy friend S) talking about Tranquebar, and wanting to explore a few of the places around Chidambaram.

It was all set... we had decided to take the bus from CMBT around 11 sat morning and make our way to Chidambaram and take it from there.. Had gathered a bit of info about Tranquebar from a travel guy, so we were confident it shouldn’t be too difficult. Armed with the info from email, a copy of the map of TN and the Chidambaram area, we reached the bus stand around 10.45… hopped on a bus headed to Chidambaram, not deluxe, not ac, but it sure had a TV that screened two interesting movies.

Day 1

Saturday – 28th June

Settled into our seats, grabbed a bottle of water and some eats, we got ready for the journey. In a few mins, the bus left the stand and we were finally on our way. Through the 4 and half hour journey, we saw Sadhu Miranda and Anjaathe; S and i chit chatted loads, enjoyed the beautiful sightssmile enroute and could feel excitement build as we reached Chidambaram... it was 4.45pm

Hopped across the road, Hotel Saradharam, booked ourselves into the only room available, and went over to their restaurant to catch a bite to eat [we’d been starving since morning]... after digging into a plate of warm sambar vada and hot masala dosa, we headed off to freshen up in our room. It was quite nice... two beds, a TV, clean loo (very important)...

Around 5.45, got out, to the auto stand, and had a conversation with the auto drivers on where we could go then... finally zoomed off to pottery village, Kumarmangalam. Enroute we discovered Pichavaram was also close by, so got the auto to turn around and hit the road…smile

The mangroves neatly lined against the water… the river seeming to flow forever were all breath taking... Even though boating had closed, we walked up the winding tower to catch a glimpse of what the place was all about. You will lose yourself standing there; the view is mind blowing...smilesmile The sheer expanse the whole area, the way the river winds into the ocean and the mangroves smilestretching across miles was awesome... Something I can’t quite put in words. Took plenty of pics, and spent some time taking it all in. there is boating, across the river(1hr), and another where you can take a ride to the ocean(4hrs in all).. There are quite a number of bird species there as well. To think, these mangroves can prevent tsunami makes us look at them with a whole newfound respect.

[pic from net to show the true beauty of the place]

As we were walking away, 3 girls came running towards us, the tiniest one coming to ask if we wanted a glass of mor (buttermilk)... At Rs2 per cup, she sells about 10-15 over the weekend... Accompanied with 2friends, she said they came to Pichavaram every weekend with Rs40 worth of mor and sold whatever they could. She was all of 4yrs old and from a neighbouring village, we dropped her off half way thru, and the girls said they will take her home from there…All the way on the auto, S and i couldnt help feel so overwhelmed at the kid, who at this small age was going across 7kms every weekend just so she can earn some money and give her mom...

On the way back to Chidambaram, the auto guy took us around to the Aiyappan temple and around the Annamalai University[what a huge campus]

It was nearly 8pm, we retired for the day, went to our room, unwounded a bit over TV and talking about what to do the next day!!smilesmile

Day 2 shall continue in another post…mad
