Unwrap........

I know, its been 2months since my B'day flew by but there is one gift which is is yet to be opened... Its from my dear friend Anita, who I've known over 14yrs 16yrs and running [touch wood]...

Time to unwrap the gift[ err for those who've not understood, its a holiday package] and enjoy the adventures....!!!

The road beckons...
Tickets booked
Bags are nowhere in sight...
The packing list lies untouched

Beach, the sun, the streets
Am sure there is more in store....
Excitement mounting within me
        Looking forward to new adventures............

Been long since i wandered
On my own,
Just me for company
Armed with nothing
but wishes, and advice
friends and family...
[the few souls who know where am headed...lolz]

Toodle dooo... ;o)

[before u ask, yes, i wrote that little verse...]

Off tomorrow noon and should be back next friday morning!!! Woohoooooo~!!!

Managed to get into the mood and here is what i wrote

Do read, and feel free to comment ... :)

Puzzled?

One of those rare fwds that makes too much sense and fun to pass around... got it in my mailbox today from a friend... [she sent a zillion of them, guess this is what happens when your recovering and stuck at home :D]

QUESTIONS THAT HAVE US PUZZLED.... ATLEAST I AM.. ;)

Can you cry under water?

Why do you have to "put your two cents in"..... But it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?

Once you're in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity?

Why does a round pizza come in a square box?

What disease did cured ham actually have?

How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up like every two hours?

Why are you IN a movie, but you're ON TV?

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

Why do doctors leave the room while you change?
They're going to see you naked anyway.

Why is "bra" singular and "panties" plural?

Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat?

Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane ?

If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can't he fix a hole in a boat?

Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours?
[INCASE U DINT KNOW, They're both dogs!]

Do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?

Why did you just try singing the two songs above?

Why do they call it an asteroid when it's outside the hemisphere, but call it a hemorrhoid when it's in your butt?

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, he sticks his head out the window?

Do you ever wonder why you gave me your e-mail address in the first place?;o)

Shrink?

1---A friend:- Hey Aaarti, Listen.. do you have some time to spare today afternoon? something i wanna talk about...........

2---Auto driver:-Madam, what to tell.. need to make Rs300 before end of night.. taking family and going to Pune for a wedding... been driving non stop since morning, will go home only at 2 or 3am...

3--A guy:- My parents did the drama that you see in movies, told me my dad was dying and convinced me to quit my job and move to Chennai...
No, these arent random sentences.. these are things people have told me, and why this post is here :)

I have noticed that i seem to have the ability to talk to people, not just those i know, but others as well .. I've had friends, random strangers i meet [ some where guys i met for matrimonial purposes n others were just people i met through someone, or here and there] , auto drivers[  oh, i can write a book about these tales] talk to me about their life, issues, family problems and what not!! Initially i used to get perplexed, wondering whoa, whats up, where did that come from!! But after a while, got used to it and now am kinda glad that people feel comfortable enough to talk deep personal stuff with me and i am able to help them in some way - either offer some support, guidance or simply lend a listening ear...

There are times when i joke around saying "Had i started charging for every session, i would be a multi millionaire by now"... And now check out this horoscope i got,

Horoscope Prediction -- "What a great day for you, Aaarti! You seem to have the innate listening abilities of a therapist or a counselor. Everyone comes to you with their problems, or just to cry on your shoulder. They know that you will listen to them without judgment. Have you ever thought about doing something like this for a living? Perhaps today will make you think about it."
Hmmm, interesting aint it?

About a month ago, when we went on a holiday, was telling my friends- "am gonna put up a stall outside my house with Irctc[train ticket booking] on it... cos i'd been booking tickets left right center and some more... I sent them and some others this horoscope prediction and Phat came the reply ... "put up a board right next to your Irctc saying Counselling "...

Turn on

As calvin rightly says.. one needs to be in the MOOD to do things...

Work
Play

Go out shopping

Do a task
Work [ Pah, i know i said it, am just reinforcing the point] :D
Clean their cupboard
Movie
Attend boring weddings [read family weddings]

But we dont ever have to be in the MOOD to do:-
Nothing
Kill time
Swat flies
Randomly Aimlessly browse the net
Blog surf
Throw tantrrums [even tho no one is paying attn]

Interesting how life is....  Wonder where our On Off switch is.. and who is operating it!!!

Waste not...want not

Had gone to a friend's wedding [ Met this wonderful guy through Apar and Archana].. MNA and i hit it off instantly and from there on we came buddies, who caught up with almost all the plays, concerts/ performances happening around town.. Was good fun... He got married on Oct 21st, we [me, Apar, A jr and S] went for the reception the previous evening- Oct 20th..

Decided to jam at Apar's place and head to the mandap from there, since it was closest, but that too wasnt close enough.. the cab ride took almost half hour ,with all of us wondering where the bleddy hall ws..hehehe.. Relief knew no bounds as we saw the name "Ganesh Hall" ... :)

After our photo session with the bride n groom, we headed to the main purpose of the evening.. Dinner.. Foood... [Bah!! We were hungry, ok!!].. After a brief scanning the dining hall, we spotted an area that had 4seats, just what we wanted... :D

Plonked ourselves and generally spoke about what a lovely couple they made, and blah blah [ usual girl talk you know.. :D].. food came into sight... It was yummy!!! We thoroughly enjoyed it... Simple, and delicious... not over the top masala or salt or spice...

Anyways.. our neighbors were done eating, and so another couple of people took their place... as we were about done and ready to getup, this man next to mine who had just sat in that empty seat commented looking at the messy half eaten banana leaf - "Ethukku ippadi elathayum potundu , sapdama, waste panra puriyala.. ethana per sapaade illama kashtapadra..., anniyayam ithu.." [why do people get so much food served on their plate and not eat most of it, there are so many people suffering cos they dont have any food, this is so unfair"... [ the banana leaf next to mine had half eaten food, was almost like the man who sat there just ate bits and pieces, and messed up the remaining food and got off]....

Even at home my policy is serve yourself little, finish it and then go for 2nd helping.. Dont pile things on and then look for others to help you polish it off to chuck in the bin... such a waste!! Almost like we are disrespecting the food and taking advantage of our comforts...!!!

Anyways... Have a lovely weekend!!!

Coffee, Beer or Baileys?

2 posts, both to do with coffee in 2 days.. now, thats a 1st out here.. :)

Apar had been inviting me to the club at her office for a while now, i finally took her up on the offer couple of days back and it sure was fun...

Hidden deep within her office campus, the club is just a relaxing lounge kinda place.
Board Games - Scrabble, Snakes n Ladders, Connect 4 and some more
Dart board
Pool table
Couple of sofas to chill out on
and a Counter that served up everything from water to coffee/tea to beer/wine/Bailey's...

After a few minutes of completing entry formalities..  when i had to switch off and surrender my mobile phone, stick an id patch on my arm [ well, i chose the arm, dint want to put it in front like a school kid] and walk in along with Apar to the club room...

Spent a good hour or so playing rather helping her colleagues play Scrabble .. Good fun.. going to and fro between the two, helping out with words.. doing calculations in getting their scores done...  After a game that dint seem like it was going to end, we finally celebrated the victory and then moved on to Snakes n Ladders, when J, [the lady,A who was in charge of the counter's son]

Apar kept asking me every now and then if i wanted something to drink - A coffee or maybe Baileys.. but silly me felt like having coffee and that is what i had....only to realize later on that i probably should have just taken her up on the Baileys and tried it~~ ;o)

Why? Cos Coffee is as pricey as Beer or Baileys and Wine.. lolz..

Dont ask me on what basis they did the pricing, but that is how it is... Apar filled me in on that later on.. and we had a good laugh over it cos i thought they were billing us for the electricity [coffee machine and dish washer..coffee powder, milk, and that contraption that makes the foam..-no clues what its called] as well......

Tea, on the other hand is cheap, way cheaper than  you can imagine~~  Guess its cos it has just Hot water, tea bag and wee bit of milk.. done... ! ;o)

It was a fun evening... tho Apar and i were doing diff things... it dint matter.... I was generally unwinding and enjoying the "time away from work,routine"..
Meeting new people was never a problem, so that wasnt a first for me either!!

Spent about 2-3hrs there... Phone switched off, locked away somewhere, and me completley chilled out.. Loved that feeling!!

Think we all need this completely "switch off " mode every now and then!! :-)

Next time, she has promised to teach me Pool [ cant play that game for nothing... carrom board yes, darts-kinda, but pool/snooker- no way ...] ... Untill then, adios~!!

Brew?

Born into a family of coffee lovers, i am used to people saying "I want a cup of coffee " at odd hours of the day or few minutes after their previous cuppa.. But offlate, i find myself joining the band wagon.. Was never crazy about coffee, used to drink it once a day, started drinking coffee only after coming to chennai, when i was about 14 or so... Slowly. coffee seems to have taken over my system and now i enjoy more than one cup during the day... At times, you will find me enjoying a cup of hot coffee in the middle of the night... If you dint already know, am an owl, night time is when am at my peak, high energy~!!

Even now, am writing this post sipping coffee.. Anyways, have digressed enough.... The reason i started this post was to talk about how my coffee loving family had me surprised... Last evening uncle came home from office, and was having his evening coffee when suddenly he yelled out to me... I rushed from my room, wondering what was wrong or if something interesting was up on tv...

P[my uncle] - Hey, do you have the phone number of the place from where you bought that coffee?

Me: which one?

P: The one you gave me...

Me: Oh, the one from Talacauvery?

P: yes... The coffee is divine... better than C and L and all the others we buy here..
Taste was good... and quite thick tooo...
Do they add some dye? was so dark [all this in a chidish voie.. generally pulling my leg]

Me: just zip it.. admit you liked it... chumma dont be finding faults with it :D

P: [twinkle in his eyes].. I did say it was nice.
ok, now how do we get more from that guy? Is there a number on the packet?

Me and P go to kitchen
Inspect the packet
There is a name and address.. Alas, no phone number....
Sad and forlorn return to hall..

Suddenly P: hey, why dont we write to him and ask him to courier us some packets...

Me: errr.. am not sure he knows english...

P: Idea.. get your friend in Blore to write in kannada...

Me: Right~!!my friends have nothing better to do [Bah! what all i gotta do for my family.... ]after all coffee~~

P: dont say just coffee, its "divine coffee" :D .
Totally worth the effort...

Now as i sip the coffee, i do realise it tastes different and better than what we normally buy... Hmmm, K here i come with a request :D [be ready] ...Am sure he wouldnt mind some himself.. being a coffee lover~~ :D

Diwali, a Festival of lights has us all excited... But gone are the days when i used to look forward to bringing home tonnes of crackers and bursting them from the wee hours of the morning... Ever Since Boss came into my life, the sheer thought of sound/noise went out the tiniest window!!! Today, i look fwd to celebrating the day with family and loved ones... Sharing and relaxing... unwinding , a day away from work and daily routine!!!

A day with no noise... a day when we can all sit in peace.... Just wish the rest of the world also follows this... Floppy would be so grateful.. he has already started barking his brains off and shivering .. All thanks to the sound of crackers bursting afar....!!

Say no to noise
Say yes to fun times!!!

Happy Diwali once again!!

Happiness follows

A fwd after agessssssssss..

Once there was an old alley cat walking down the street looking for his supper. As he walked along he came upon a beautiful young cat who was running around in circles chasing her tail. Around and around she went trying as hard as she could to catch her tail.

The old alley cat stopped and asked her, "What are you doing?"

The young cat slowed down and replied that she had been taught that joy, happiness, success and luck were all in the tip of her tail.

"All that I have to do is catch the end of my tail, and I will have the happy life, she said.

The old alley cat replied, "I've been around for a long time, and I know that joy, happiness, success and luck are in the tip of my tail; but, you know if I don't chase it and work my very hardest and don't worry about it, the happy life follows me wherever I go. My tail follows me everywhere, so I don't need to chase it."

Happiness isn't a place, a time, or a possession. You have to make it happen. The ways to make it happen is to stop worrying about everything and just go about your business, and do your very best. Then, if you really work hard, your happiness will follow you just like the alley cat's tail . . .

Stranger vs Friend!!

Do need to know someone before going on a trip with them?
Absolutely not...

Do you need to be comfortable around someone to spend time with them?
Yep, to a certain extent...

Do you need to know someone before having fun with them?
Nope....!!

Well, these were questions that played in my head... all of which i realized popped in because this was a 1st time experience of being around someone and being so comfy and happy!! A friend i made through a friend-Apar, but was he a friend? really? in the true sense? not really... honestly.. but today, i can proudly say he,KR, is one awesome friend.. and am glad i got the chance to meet and spend time with him.. A bigger thanks to Apar for having intro'd us !!!

The holiday we took last week had us cracking up like crazy.. laughing till our tummies hurt... shooting quirks n one liners randomly... walking up and down aimlessly....
Going berserk over a game of carrom board when a 4yr old was beating us ... :-)
Threatening to break things on our heads when we were fast asleeep...!! ;o)

No thinking before talking
No hesitation in voicing thots
No second guessing...
Not only this.. we were completing each others' sentences
Thinking the exact same thing!!!
Woww... was fun!! :)

It was a lovely experience... dont think i've been thru something like this before!! and maybe that is why i know i will cherish this experience /trip for a long time to come!!

I have been on trips with people i dint know
I have connected with strangers and built a bond
but somewhere there was a bit of strain or weirdness or distance[not the physical one]

But this time, it was amazing!!
I did things i've never done before...
I was absolutely enjoying myself...

Thanks guys!!
{dont ask me where this post came from.. just had to pen down what was floating in my head... :)]

More on the weekend trip coming up on my Travel blog.. :) Wait up!!!
