No Can Do

Am sitting here wondering how to say NO to people who keep asking me for favors ,while i find the men around me slapping a NO left right and center!!

How is it that Men find it easy to say NO? Are they genetically programmed to simply shut their brain, ears and heart to simply blurt out the small 2 letter word that has me choking many a times? and if i do say NO, i will be pondering over it for a long time, doing a post mortem and wondering if i did the right thing or not!!

Me: Can i ...
Guy[Could be anyone from dad, granpa, uncle to a friend]: NO
Me; but i havent even finished the statement yet
Guy: NO, whatever it is , I know its either impossible or just NOT done or NOT gonna happen or NO way, i wont do it!
Me: hmpfh...

All i probably wanted was to go buy a new table for the computer [ the one at home is probably falling apart of am already left holding the computer in my hands] or the might have suggested a course to study or to switch TV channel to some show i want to watch!

Its not just this, but there are instances when one wants to purchase a new furniture for the house, or a gift for a friend, or the wedding one has been invited to and the MAN instantly outs his foot down and says NO and taht is the end of discussion!! And if there was a word uttered beyond that , they lose it!Why? I demand to know WHY?
  • Do they go on an  EGO trip?
  • Do they get some cheap kick outta saying NO?
  • Is it a game of Control?
  • Do they not CARE about others?
  • Do they need to be the DECIDING factor- always?
In couples, especially, i see the guy holding fort, snubbing the wife down at every given chance, trying to almost prove that she is DUMB!! this irks me, and i with my big mouth blurt something to the effect of how the woman has a mind of her own, and then voila, the discussion ends, i earn a bad name and the woman is still left fuming [her idea, suggestion was shut away without a 2nd thought]!!

It leaves me upset and seething when i watch the women[mom, gramma, aunts, cousins, friends] around me get shoved to a corner by the men in their lives. At home, at Stores, at restaurants, while planning holidays, a family outing, a movie- anything that is said to the GUY is first shot down and then  some do think over it and reconsider, but at the end make it look like it was THEIR idea all along!! Bah!!

Lady: I like this Dressing table
Guy: No, that is not nice.. look at this, its better
Lady: But but....
Guy: No, just come and see this.. we shall take this... what do you say?
[like she really has a choice after that last statement]
Lady: hmm.. ok.. if you like it!!

I wanna know, who DIED and made the MAN the King of the world?

Who taught the MEN to say NO and forgot to share that lesson with us?? Imagine what would happen if the "YES MAN" movie was for Real and all MEN went through that change!!

Forget me not

I have a photographic memory... No, i am not refering to the phrase about -"All of us have photographic memory, some just dont have film in it!!!" :P

I tend to remember things a bit too much in detail, and sometimes its quite funny!! Yes, there are days when i wish i dint remember so much, but to hell with that.. Cant have it all can we!?

I remember-
Faces
Names
Instances
Incidents
Interesting moments
Conversations we had while at a particular spot
Will remember the conversations/moments everytime we go to that place...

The Downside is, i also remember-
Sad Things people did
Pain
Hurtful moments
Tears and the entire story behind it

Right Down to every last detail.. What was i wearing, what time was it.. What the weather was like.. How many others were around us.. What was i doing before/after... and everytime the place/moment/person/thing comes up i will remember! No, i am not faffing!! :-)

Was recenlty reading up about photographic memory and discovered its called Eidetic memory. Now i dont now if i fit into that category, but i do remember more than others around me!! Keep ragging my mom and Family saying - You had a child prodigy and you dint know!! :-)

What brought this post about? well, last night was surfing the net and found a random post about Bowling and  "Snookers" and that is when memories came flooding- a conversation  i had with a friend during my recent visit to Blore.. during a drive down a particular road near his house and what we spoke about till we reached the signal, the words my friend spoke and how during our next drive down that way i told him of it and we had a good laugh!! :D

Wired..

Whats happening in your life ? - Will email you

You switched jobs and dint tell m? - Duh, Dont you get Linkedin updates?

Where did you travel to ? - Check out my cool pictures on Facebook

Have you seen this xyz movie? - Yep, and even reviewed it on my Blog.

Can we meet for coffee? - - Oh, arent you on my Twitter list, i've got plans?

I need abc's number- wait up, can i text you?

Its almost like we dont do anything in person these days!!

What am trying to say is -Yes,technology is good, but when i hear people talking about how their life is over if their phone dies, or if they dont have internet for half hour it irks me!! Wake up.... Why are you letting technology [ which is man made] control your life? Shouldnt it be the other way around??

A friend last evening texted me - Arent you on gtalk? nope, i had logged out i said.. but then when i came to the computer, i realised i had left it on but not checked or left a message saying "Away" :-)

“The greatest danger in modern technology isn't that machines will begin to think like people, but that people will begin to think like machines”

PS: I am a gadget freak, but not an addict! ;)

Love this quote ...
Ants crawl up and down the walls, no matter how busy they are, they always stop and communicate with each other....

The Tweetters met and Lions Roared

The Saturday dawned much against what i had planned.. Woke up feeling awful. cold and head felt like a tonne.. Just dint have the energy to do anything, but knew i had a lot on my plate for the day!! Alas, as the morning wore on, knew i would have to forego the Social media meet that i had promised @Soravjain i would attend... Sent him a "Sorry cant come unwell " text and rested.... But around 12.30, felt wee bit better and decided to head out to Subway to meet some of the twitter buds!! Well, i had met @Preethikag, @narayananH, @sathyabhat earlier at the Indiblogger meet, but had no clues who else was gonna turn up!! bah, what the heck- meeting new people was never something i was tensed about... :)

Landed in Subway, Egmore around 1.45, and waited...waited... till finally another lost soul- @arby_k landed.. we chit chatted a bit, orderd a dessert each and began waiting for others.. Slowly the crew poured in one by one... till we were about 10 of us!! Good fun cracking up, random jokes, kidding around, each one teasing the other, and some more....

Oh , wait.. rewind to about an hour... As i was walking towards Subway, Apar called to ask If i wanted to come for the IPL -CSK vS RR match at Chepauk, she had an extra ticket... Thought for about a millisecond and said "Yes, just tell me where and when to land"...

Ffwd back to NOW.... Had a bite to eat, and kept staring at the watch, waiting for 3.15..and as big hand and small hand moved, i knew i had to bid adieu to this fun group and be on my way!! some even made fun saying ---
By the time yu reach the stands match will be over...
Why do u want to go bake in the sun, sit here with us some more..... hahaha....

This is where one of the most exciting evenings began!! reached the stadium, walked around to Gate 11, which was near the MCC entrance, hunted for friend, couldnt get through to her mobile, was tired, hot, sweaty, just about ready to give up and head home when i saw a familiar face waving at me...  Phew!!! Finally, we managed to find seats, and latch on to watch the action... And what a match it was... We did get amazing seats, awesome view of the entire stadium and a super cool view of the match- ball by ball...

The joy of watching anything LIVE is something that must be experienced and cant be explained... Be it a concert or a play or a match, the adrelin rush, the excitment, the feeling of "gosh, am a part of this event" is simply phenomenal....  And to be in touch with friends, albeit virtually is another beautiful feeling - good fun!!!

Everytime there was a Sixer or a 4, the entire audience was up and with the players, cheering on!! the same held true when a wicket fell.. And when the 2nd innings began, there was absolute silence, it was as if all were holding their breathe to see what happens... And to think Chennai hit the HIGHEST IPL Score 2nd time in IPL, in their home ground, and won the match was the icing and the cherry on the cake!!

A Saturday that started out like every other day,but ended on such a high note it took me a while to come back to Earth!! :-)

So, next time someone asks you to come along for a LIVE show, HOP SKIP JUMP , go for it!!
