Silence 1

Close your eyes, relax.
Listen to the sound of silence
Tranquillity, calmness
Allow your heart to savor the beauty of silence.

Leaves rustle in the garden.
Butterflies gently flutter.
Bumble bees buzz upon the flower
Listen to the sound of silence

No words no sound
No happiness no sorrow
Speaks no words,
quietly felt by the heart and soul
Listen to the sound of silence….

Silence 2

Sitting in a crowded room
Filled with people and music
hear nothing

Surrounded by friends
filled with warmth and love
feel nothing

Trudging through life
filled with ups and downs
realise nothing

Sanjeevanam – healthy eating…

My friend and i had decided to go out for lunch and we zeroed in on this place, cos we’d both heard abt it but not been there.. we’ve been friends since high school and even worked together till abt 2yrs back, she is now in Hydie and was here for her sister’s wedding..

The place we went to for lunch was Sanjeevanam, its in Nungambakkam, behind Good Shepherd High school , Further down from Cakes n bakes… Anyways, i left home around 1.15 and got there ,waited for her to come.. We then made our way to the 1st floor where the restaurant is and found a seat in a corner.. We could hear a girl talking about the food at the neighbouring table and Anita sighed ” Oh,God, i hope we dont get a free lecture”.. after a couple of minutes, a waiter came to our table, laid out a paper(the thing they place on ur spot on table)… and he brought a cup that had 2slices of banana with some coconut shavings on it.. and then laid out 5tiny cups with colorful liquid in them… Pretty soon, this girl walked up to our table and asked if we would like a explanation on what was laid out.. we thought, why not and said ok…

She then mentioned that the way of eating there was initially a fruit, followed by liquids(dates in milk, badam n kaju milk, beetroot soup, spicy buttermilk and another milky thing) and then they would serve us the course that had raw veggies, followed by semi cooked and then fully cooked veggies along with brown rice(the unpolished rice, supp to be healthier) and white rice.. the meal would be complete with a payasam(sweet like kheer) and water will be served only at the end… I think they have a total of 26items on this menu.. sigh~!!!

Now,this was a whole new experience for us,but since we liked veggies, we thought Chalo, lets enjoy it… i hope its good.. ๐Ÿ™‚

They laid out a nice big banana leaf(traditional in South india) and served 4raw veggie salads – cucumber n carrots ;beetroot, carrots, raw mango salad;banana stem raita(beyond healthy, the juice esp for diabetes); and finally a sweet made using rice flakes, jaggery and sprinkled with coconut shavings.. all of them were yummy… and only after your atleast 50% done with this,do they bring on the next course… This had white pumpkin and daal koottu called olan;,mix veggie koottu(made using coconut, chilli paste) & raw papaya in curd(this was absolutely lip smacking, i couldnt believe it was raw papaya, tasted so good)… these were pretty good… just as we were done licking our fingers clean.. they brought the next course

A daal based thogaiyal(kinda like chutney); mix veg avial(yet another dish made using coconut, chilli paste with boiled veggies) ;banana flower curry(this is supp to be very very healthy), bhindi curry(lightly cooked).. along with this they served a spoonful of brown rice and a gooey mixture of daal.. it was yummmy… ๐Ÿ™‚ yea,i know..every piece of this meal was yummmy….

Finally they served white rice(normal rice) with sambar and gave us a bowl of kadi, rasam and buttermilk to serve ourselves… the grand finale was a hot delicious payasam(kheer kinda, made using jaggery, coconut and some other spices)… and then a spoonful of Honey to help digestion and then a glass of warm yellow color water(probably had haldi n some mild spice)…. phew..what a meal it was…. and all this for just Rs100/-.. Unbeliveable…

So,next time you see a Sanjeevanam restaurant.. do walk in and savour this.. Although i doubt i can eat this more than once a month.. way too much food.. ๐Ÿ™‚

happy eating… healthy eating… ๐Ÿ™‚

Frustration… helplessness

All of us at home are going thru a very stressful period now.. an aunt, gramma’s sis is very ill,she has breast cancer, and she kept it from all of us for so long, nearly 2yrs…sigh.. there is so much anger in all of us but we know nothing can be done now and the only thing left is for us to pray , and pray really hard that God hears our prayers and cures her and gives her a new lease on life… she says she dint want to cause any of us pain and just go.. ๐Ÿ™

She is all of 59 and has taken care of almost all the kids in our family, she and uncle dont have kids of their own but we are all as good as theirs, the amount of love and time she has spent on us is unmeasurable and so now seeing her suffer is very heart wrenching and i feel so helpless… It gets frustrating.. i have these angry dialogues with God asking him why he does this to people who are so religious, so sweet and caring… I guess its just a test that we need to go thru and He is testing us to see if we really believe in Him… sigh….

Today mom and i were talking.. She said – is it really worth spending all this money and her taking so much treatment when we kn0w what is inevitable.. and is it necessary to put her thru so much…. the only answer i had was – we cant sit and watch her suffer or go through so much pain knowing life is coming to an end and as human beings, its not in us to let others suffer, esp loved ones.. we cant even watch a plant wilt, we rush to give it shade and water and revive it.. So we would want to do more for family …. another thought was that atleast this way we wont feel guilty later on that we dint do anything.. we did all we could but Oh,well, it wasnt meant to be will be a form of consoling…. …

Damn it.. its so frustrating…. ๐Ÿ™

Bheja Fry — Idiots dinner… :)

I knew this movie was a remake or atleast based on the French movie called Le Dรฎner de cons (French: The Idiots’ Dinner ; English title : The Dinner Game), but had no clues what the story was… Just knew that i wanted to watch it for it had Vinay pathak and Ranvir of Channel [V] fame… i decided to wait awhile cos i thought tickets wont be available, it had been released here on 5th may and luckily when i called on 5th evening, was told that tickets are easily available.. Satyam, the best theater in town was out of question for the show timing was 10pm, so i resigned to watching it in Ega, which was showing this 4shows… ๐Ÿ™‚

It was a hot saturday afternoon, managed to convince mom to come along and we made our way to the theater, and i bought two tickets.. it was 3.45 and we were let into the theater.. found our seats and got comfy, waiting for the movie to begin….

This is a debut movie for Director Sagar Bellary

The Cast include : Sarika (Sheetal Thadani ), Rajat Kapoor (Ranjeet Thandani, Vinay Pathak (Bharat Bhushan, the wannabe singer ), Ranvir Shorey (Asif, the income tax-inspector), Milind Soman (Anant Ghoshal) and Bhairavi Goswami (Suman Rao).. Except for Rajat , Vinay, and in some scenes Milind, the rest are almost like guest appearances… they come and go… ๐Ÿ™‚

The movie begins on the bus, where Vinay entertains his next seat neibor with his singing and his popular precious preserved scrap book.. Its so cute, the way he pulls out the cover from his briefcase, unwraps it, pulls out the scrap book and shows it off to all and sundry..the Pride and joy on his face is awesome, and he repeats this every now and then thru the movie…

Its the story of a couple of high-society men, who host dinners every Friday night for a new talent, but this talent search is different… They find a talent, invite them to dinner and make fun of them. And the one who find the maximum number of talents wins!!

Well, Ranjeet Thandani, owner of a music company, married to Sheetal (a singer) is always on search for this type of talent and while talking to his car dealer friend, he comes across Bharat Bhushan, who works at the Tax office and is a singer(or so he thinks he is one). Bhushan, who eats drinks and breathes music, cherishes the invite. And thus begins the chaos…. Ranjeet hurts his back in the previous scene while at the pool with his friend, and loses his phone in that goes kaput, falling into the pool….

Sheetal, Ranjeet’s wife detests his ways of making fun of innocent people and storms out of the house, but not before calling the doctor over to check his back out..All this happens minutes before Bhushan makes his entrance into the Thadani household.. Since his back is beyond sore, Ranjeet tells Bhushan he might have to come back next friday since he is not upto dinner.. And as Bhushan tries to be helpful, things take a turn for the worst, Ranjeet’s back giving away, his wife Sheetal calling to say she is never coming back….

Time to grab a couple of tissues, as you are going to be laughing your heart out and go crazy over Bhushan’s innocence and actions… … and every now and then talking about his wife who ran away with some remix musicwala… ๐Ÿ™‚ phenomenal guy….

The scene where instead of calling Dr Shepherd, he calls Suman rao,a girlfriend/nymphomaniac and then how he fumbles to tell her she neednt come over, or how he mistakes Sheetal for Suman and sends her away gets you laughing so much, you wonder if there are people like him in real…. Every call he makes is followed by another one cos he forgets the purpose in the 1st one…he’d get engrossed in it forgetting the main purpose behind the call, and asking for 1 last chance and redialling the number… ๐Ÿ™‚

The film belongs to Vinay Pathak’s character โ€“ Bharat Bhushan. Every scene, every setting and every dialogue has you cracking up with his presence. Even though his presence in Ranjeet’s house is a bit absurd, the character is stretched till the very last scene, and mind you, he keeps coming up with brilliant ideas that keeps the story going…

Vinay has completely seeped into his character’s skin and makes you laugh for no reason. Everything about him is perfect โ€“ his ‘champi’ looks, his loud attitude, his laughing style, the way he answers the phone, the “redial, its ringing” and his putting on an accent while talking to Ananth, pretending to be a Bhojpuri movie director,Madan Mohan.. Brilliance is how i would term his acting…. His comic timing is flawless and he is truly an idiot personified! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ranvir Shorey,as Asif doesn’t have much of a presence but has done his job well. How he gets Ranjeet to make him dinner, for he will be missing dinner at home ‘cos they get him to go to office to bring Kunal Grover’s number, to his reaction when he discovers his wife is sleeping around and how calmly he speaks to her knowing she is with another man, has us in splits..dont know if we should sorry for him or applaud at how cool n calm he sounds… Sarika too, doesn’t have much of a role, but what little she has, she does a good job of it.. Rajat Kapoor is brilliant as ever and has portrayed the role of a desperate husband well.. Compared to Dil Chahta hai, i would say he has gotten much better…

It’s all about a no-sense script! And that’s what makes it worth-watch…

Dont think about logic, actually dont think.. just watch and enjoyyyyyyyyyyyyy …
