September Tag- Day 30- In Motion

Sigh… And so with this the Tag comes to end and so does the month of September… 9 months of 2011 are over and we just have 3 more left before 2012 comes knocking on the door..!! So much to do, so many places to see, just not fair!!

I quite like the theme for the day- In Motion.. Kinda gives me hope that as we keep moving, so will our dreams and thereon our lives… Maybe this is how its meant to be.. Keep going… Keep at it till you succeed/ reach your goals/ reach for the stars…
The image i have for this theme is one that was taken in Pondy during my visit last year.. We were walking along the ocean when the sound from the waves thrashing against the rocks stopped us in our tracks..
Like the waves, i wish to keep flowing…
Like the waves, i wish to keep aspiring for greater heights..
Like the waves, i wish to keep going no matter what challenges come my way!
Thanks Ratzzz for initiating this tag amidst our group… Felt bad when your Camera conked, but do hope you get to do this tag soon!!

Skywatch Friday- Green fields and blue skies

Friday is here, and i look forward to feasting on the beautiful skies shared across the blogsville… It also brings with it fond memories as i glance through some of the experiences i have gathered over the years, albeit too few to brag about…

There are 2 friends of mine, high school gal pals who have both been wanting to visit Hampi for a while now.. Infact they were talking about the place far more than me, and it so happened i got the opportunity to travel and experience a wee bit of what Hampi has to offer.  I sure hope they make the trip before the year ends!
While in Hampi, i did manage to cross over to Anegundi and explore a few sights there as well. Going by the Coracle on the river was quite an experience in itself. I dint know swimming, water was flowing quite to the brim and the coracle looked near flat, and had people sitting across every square inch of space. But thankfully, the fear left me before reading the shore, which is what had me relaxed and looking forward to discovering some of the hidden treasures there..
After a hot cup of tea in a small tea shop run by a woman, i hopped into an auto, and went over to a few sights suggested by the auto driver. Enroute, there was so much greenery, it was such a pleasant journey, making me forget the blazing heat for a few moments..

For More beautiful skies, visit Skywatch Friday

Karpagambal Mess, Mylapore

So, after much hype and a zillion friends, well, i exaagerate, it was just a handful of friends and a brother in law raving about the place, i finallly managed to visit the infamous Karpagambal Mess in Mylapore one sunday morning.

My uncles were visiting from Delhi and USA, and on a Sunday we decided to rise early, head for some fun in the beach and then maybe do breakfast somewhere before returning home.  We were all promptly up at 5.30am, including a tiny tot, and managed to get our cousin out of the bed as well.. 🙂 We had such a blast at the Marina Beach, and all that walking and running had built quite the appetite.

After a brief debate on where to head for breakfast, one of my uncles suggested Karpagambal Mess in Mylapore. It is adj to the Kapaleeshwarar temple, and is a fairly small place that you just might miss, if you dint know of its existence.

The minute you walk in, the heady aromas of sambar, chutney along with halwas and the agarbathi hits you like a storm. The man behind the counter looked like he was trapped behind the little box. Surrounding him were a zillion kinds of Halwa, sweets and savories… There was a shelf near the entrance that was brimming with podis and vadams.. The place is fairly small, and apparently after the renovation, they have included an air conditioned hall, well, its more of a cubicle, you either walk in or walk out, there is no space to amble, leave alone stand…
We parked ourselves across 2 tables, and placed the orders. I had the pongal and Keerai vadai.. Both came steaming hot, landing plonk on the banana leaf.
There was another vessel parked on our table- it had 3 containers in it, different kinds of chutneys and then we found a bucket with sambar.. There was also a stainless steel jug filled with water on each table.
The food was good, hot and yummy… There are no frills or fancies here, what you see is what you get!  The walls inside the AC room and outside are covered with framed images of Gods and Goddesses, literally spanning the entire length of the place…

By the time we were done with our 1st orders, the waiter was back asking if we wanted anything else. Some ordered Poori- potato, while others [including me] ordered coffee..  The poori looked a little crisp and flat, and the potato was alright…

The coffee was good, just right amount of sugar and strength..

We packed some for those at home and returned home happy and content…  When visiting Karpagambal Mess,
dont expect a lengthy menu, smart waiters or spacious interiors.. You will none of these here…

Walk in… Enjoy what you ordered.. pay your bill and get out!! Everything about the place screams Madras…
The banana leaf, the hot filter kaapi, authentic interiors and the aroma wafting in the air…

September Tag- Day 29- Purchased

Well, i am not much of a shopper, but there are a few things that i cant resist buying… One is books, other is anything with a butterfly on it… 🙂

This month for a change i bought things i needed, that would help me in my travels.. One was a pair of floaters [ the ones i had were done for, ready to be chucked] and a Stroller…. 🙂 Even though the trip dint happen, am sure these will come in handy for whatever is in store in the future…

September Tag- Day 28- Daily Routine

I open blogger to write the post and that is when it hits me that September is nearly over, just 2 days to go.. Sigh!! 9 months of this year is over… :-/

The theme for the day is “Daily routine”… i dint have to blink, i knew what i was going to post… Ever since i moved into my grandparents home [11years ago], i found the chime that has been a part of my childhood and during the growing up years as well. I brought it out, and hung  it on the cupboard.
So, now every morning, i wake up, pull the string, let the music play, listen to it, enjoy it and then get out of the room… 🙂 a perfect start to the day… In case i miss it, the morning does go for a toss, i know, i know, am probably just connecting random dots, but what the heck…. 😀

This chime was bought by Granpa when i was a baby from one of his international trips…

September Tag- Day 27- After dark

Ooh, i like the sound of the theme for the day- After Dark… I wonder what i can post for this topic, my mind is running in so many different directions, wondering what to make of it, what not to and what image i have that matches with the thoughts in my head!!  So here goes, the one photograph i liked that best suited the topic…. 🙂

I shot this photograph  at a mall in the city- Citi Center. On the top floor is the movie theater and just below the staircase is a big hall where exhibitions are held through the year. There is a huge window with this stained glass work on it.. I shot this snap as i waited for the movie… Infact it was taken on my mobile-Blackberry Curve 8520 🙂

Engeyum Eppothum

My uncle called asking “ethavathu cinema irukka, nalaikku polama?” and that was all i needed.. After a quick check with some friends on which movie to pick, i spoke to uncle, mom & dad and booked tickets for Engeyum Eppothum at Satyam Cinemas 12.15pm Show… It was the 1st time Dad and uncle were heading to Satyam, so there was an added splash of excitment amidst us.
After watching the movie, i am sharing my review …

Directed by M. Saravanan
Produced by A. R. Murugadoss
Starring : Jai
Anjali
Ananya
Sharvanand
Even before the credits rolled in, we saw the Fox Studios come alive on the screen. Must say, it was a proud moment to see Fox coming into the Tamil movie scene as well.. This is Fox Star Studios’ first Tamil production in association with A R Murugadoss!! Kudos!!
So, what is the movie about?Well, it is a love story, not one, but 2, oh wait.. i think it is 3 or 4 🙂
And then there is the Bus accident that kind of ties everything together

Whats the big deal about this, you might think.. But you need to watch the movie to know why!!
Everyday we watch new channels showcasing incidents of bus accidents and train colisions and we feel sorry for those who lost their lives and for those who have been left behind. We do wonder what kind of life they had led, or what they were embarking on the journey for.

Well, this is exactly what M.Saravanan has done through this movie. He takes us forward, giving us a closer look at the lives of those who were in one such accident, and shows what their lives were like, the work, romance, problems they faced before and why they were on the bus in the 1st place..

With just a handful of characters, the director has created a movie that is not only fun, filled with life, humour, romance, emotions and one that has the audience reacting in every scene..  What begins at the Bus stand is a journey with so many twists and turns, that at the end we are all holding our hearts in our hands, wondering where this is going….

The Movie

Amudha (Ananya) comes to Chennai from her village to attend an interview. Stranded in CMBT bus stand, she takes her sister’s advice and seeks help from a stranger Goutham (Sarva) to find her way around the city and reach her interview on time. She is very scared and reluctant at the beginning, but soon warms up to him to a point where she gets him to take her not only to the interview, but to her sister’s place.. She insists on travelling by Share auto, reports to her sister about her suspisions about him, and judges him through the day..
Amudha returns to Tiruchy eventually, but realises she has fallen in love with Goutham. She then heads off to make the journey to Chennai to find him[so much so she does not even know his name], just when Goutham boards the bus to visit her in Trichy[ all he knows is her name and that she is from Tirchy]
As a new day dawns, in Trichy, another romance is spurting off between Kadhiresan (Jai) and  Manimegalai (Anjali). They aare such contrasts in their personality that it makes us chuckle everytime they meet, and every dialogue Manimegalai thrusts on him.. Their romance takes off rough, but soon finds smooth roads, and finally they decide to visit the village near Trichy to meet Kadhiresan’s parents.
This is when tragedy strikes… Near Villupuram, both the buses collide. What happens then is the crux of the movie…

The director takes us back to each of their lives, giving us a glimpse of what was going on before the accident before he brings us back to the scene of the collision…

It is amazing to watch Manimegalai take charge and order people to be taken to hospital, including Kadhiresan, who is hurt and bleeding from his ears… Goutham spots Amudha on the bus, injured and sends her off to a hospital… The finale is at the hospital…. Do the couples unite or do they have to go their ways heart broken? Who survives? who doesnt? Who are the other passengers on the bus and what was their connections?
Watch the movie to know more..
Good stuff
The movie is probably the only one i’ve seen in years that is as close to reality as possible…
Very well made ….
And the characters are all etched out perfectly…
The Govinda Song
Downers:
Wish the director dint show so much goriness of the accident, but i guess its needed to hit the reality button home
In the scene where Amudha and Goutham travel around the city to get to the place of her interview, the maze thry travel left me puzzled.. —->>> From CMBT to Egmore [saying it is Kilpauk]—> from there they seem to go to R A Puram and then to Nungambakkam high Road and finally to Ethiraj Salai [which is supposed to College road]
Again in the scene between Manimegalai and Kadhiresan WHO ARE IN TRICHY, she takes him shopping to ESPIRIT, Khader nawaz khan road[spending 150bucks on auto], blows Rs6000, and then hops across to Barista [above Best wishes, nungambakkam high road] and then she heads off home [in Trichy] and he goes home[in Trichy]
Movie makers- please understand that your audiences do NOTICE things, minute details and we are not DUH!

September Tag- Day 26- Something Old

Well, its been a crazy morning..Was to have packed and been away on a mini holiday, alas, Mister Murphy seems to have had other things in mind… The trip is cancelled and i am still in town, but the day’s been relatively easy… 🙂
The theme for the day is “Something old”… now, that is a phrase that is so open to interpretation… I guess it gives us free reign to think what we want and post a photograph that fits our thoughts.. Here goes my photograph for the theme-
Even though this chain has been through time and is quite old, it is still used at home and the colours caught my eye… So much beauty…

September Tag- day 25- Sunflare

1st its Sunset, then it is Sunflare… But then, its fun everyday… There is something to look forward to, and something to dig around 😀

I kept wondering what a sunflare was… Was it a sudden burst of sunlight or something beyond? Here is what the dictionary had to say-

solar flare

n.

A sudden eruption of magnetic energy released on or near the surface of
the sun, usually associated with sunspots and accompanied by bursts of
electromagnetic radiation and particles. Ultraviolet and x-ray radiation
from solar flares often induce electromagnetic disturbances in the
earth’s atmosphere.

Does this fit?

Firework- Katy perry

For some reason, i liked this song the minute i heard it… So, here i am sharing it!!
Lyrics:
Do you ever feel like a plastic bag,
drifting through the wind
wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper thin
like a house of cards,
one blow from caving in?

Do you ever feel already buried deep?
6 feet under screams but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there’s still a chance for you
‘Cause there’s a spark in you

You just gotta ignite, the light, and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

‘Cause baby you’re a firework
Come on, show ’em what you’re worth
Make ’em go “Oh, oh, oh”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you’re a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make ’em go “Oh, oh, oh”
You’re gonna leave ’em all in awe, awe, awe

You don’t have to feel like a waste of space
You’re original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Maybe your reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow
And when it’s time, you’ll know

You just gotta ignite, the light, and let it shine
Just own the night like the 4th of July

‘Cause baby you’re a firework
Come on, show ’em what you’re worth
Make ’em go “Oh, oh, oh”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you’re a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make ’em go “Oh, Oh, Oh”
You’re gonna leave ’em all in awe, awe, awe

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It’s always been inside of you, you, you
And now it’s time to let it through-ough-ough

‘Cause baby you’re a firework
Come on, show ’em what you’re worth
Make ’em go “Oh, Oh, Oh”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y

Baby, you’re a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make ’em go “Oh, Oh, Oh”
You’re gonna leave ’em all in awe, awe, awe

Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon….
