There are a few places that kinda grow on you.. And then there are some that you visit a zillion times, yet they remain strange. But then, when you think about it, at the end of the day it is the experiences that you carry with you that make a difference. I have been visiting Mumbai for over a decade, almost regularly, a trip a year, for a few days. Mostly it has been to visit friends, so we end up chilling at home, or roaming around the city.

During my early trips, I would wander about alone, exploring the lanes, doing some touristy things and just taking it all in. Off late, the trips have been different, which is possibly the reason why I feel different about the city as well. I am learning to see the city from a different perspective, am discovering places and the company is making me fall in love with the city, one area at a time…

The most recent trip to the city was a short one, 5 days, but I was shown some of the most amazing food the city has to offer. Nothing fancy, no 5 star swanky buildings with high rise towers and escalators, or staff that is dressed in uniforms, and the works. These were places that are tucked away within narrow lanes and crowded streets. The kind of places only a local and a foodie would know, well I was in for a treat alright….

Next time you are heading to Mumbai, and want to check out some local street food [veg/non veg], you can carry this list with you…..  I did not click pictures at a few places, the food was that good, we dug right in.. And then there were some that weren’t open or we did not want to be criss crossing amidst the crazy traffic …

The dishes we had was absolutely mind blowingly delicious, at places that had limited items on their menu and budget as well…  I am still salivating as I recall how hot & yumm the dishes were, especially the rotis… The only dish that I wasnt too fond of was the Phirni at Rajasthan dhabba, it had strong rose essence in it…

When you are in the company of someone who is passionate about food and wants to share all his favourite places with you, it is such a different experience. The joy of taking the first bite, watching their face light up as they see the smile spread across yours… Something that words cannot do justice to~!  Looking forward to exploring more during my upcoming trips…

What was ironic was that one evening I did head out to a fancy place with another friend, and while the place was beautiful, the food was very blah.. insipid even~ :/ But then another one we went to [ just before my flight] was fabulous…  Just goes to show, the place does not matter, the ambiance does not matter, it is the heart & soul poured into the food that makes it what it is..
