Over the last few days, got to engage with a few who were in their 20s and that is when it struck me that I had quite a few things i would like to tell them… Here are some pearls of wisdom that makes more sense as they grow older:
- Sleep is precious – Those all-nighters will catch up with you. Prioritize rest.
- Friendships evolve – The people you think are forever may not be, and that’s okay.
- Save money early – Even a little bit adds up in ways you can’t imagine.
- Health matters more than you think – Eat well, move your body, and don’t ignore that random pain.
- Your career path won’t be linear – And that’s perfectly normal.
- Heartbreaks won’t kill you – Even though they feel like they might.
- Silence is powerful – You don’t need to have an opinion on everything.
- Your parents were right about a lot of things – You just weren’t ready to hear it.
- Your body will change – Appreciate it, take care of it, and be kind to yourself.
- Comparison is a trap – Run your own race; there’s no set timeline for success.
- Learn to cook at least a few meals – It’ll save you money, time, and health.
- You won’t always feel this lost – Clarity comes in pieces, not all at once.
- Boundaries are important – Not everyone deserves unlimited access to you.
- Travel when you can – Experiences are worth more than things.
- No one really knows what they’re doing – Even the people who seem like they do.
- Take more photos but also live in the moment – You’ll cherish both later.
- Saying ‘no’ is a skill – The sooner you learn it, the better.
- Your gut instinct is often right – Trust it more.
- Happiness isn’t a destination – It’s found in small, everyday moments.
- You will cringe at your old self – And that’s a sign of growth.
- Being busy isn’t the same as being productive – Learn to work smart, not just hard.
- It’s okay to change your mind – About careers, relationships, and even what you want in life.
- Read the fine print – Whether it’s a lease, a contract, or a credit card agreement.
- Not everyone will like you, and that’s fine – You’re not for everyone, and everyone isn’t for you.
- Kindness goes a long way – People remember how you made them feel, not just what you said.
- Confidence comes from doing, not just thinking – Take the leap, even if you’re scared.
- Therapy isn’t just for when things go wrong – It can help you grow in ways you never expected.
- Your definition of success will change – And it should.
- Stop waiting for the “right time” – Just start, whether it’s a project, a hobby, or a dream.
- Romantic love isn’t the only love that matters – Friendships and self-love are just as important.
- You don’t have to prove yourself to everyone – Your worth isn’t up for debate.
- Good credit is more valuable than you think – Financial literacy matters.
- Sometimes, no response is the best response – Not every situation deserves your energy.
- Jealousy is usually admiration in disguise – Use it to figure out what you really want.
- Your 30s aren’t as scary as you think – They might even be better than your 20s.
- Apologize when you’re wrong – And mean it.
- Don’t lose yourself in a relationship – You should enhance each other, not complete each other.
- The people you envy also have struggles – No one’s life is perfect.
- Sometimes, life forces you to slow down – Listen to those moments instead of fighting them.
- You won’t always feel like an adult, even when you are one – And that’s okay
